Parenting Issues Psychologist

I have noticed over the years that most of my clients can identify and precisely describe their difficult issues. But despite their insight, they still find themselves repeating the same old negative patterns that lead to ongoing suffering and dissatisfaction. Jung taught us that there is no birth of consciousness without pain. I believe that hidden within our pain are the seeds of our healing, waiting to be discovered and brought forth into life. Seeking therapy is about deciding that the time is now for breaking free of the patterns that no longer serve us, and replacing them with more life-affirming choices.

MY CLIENTS AND OUR WORK TOGETHER

In individual psychotherapy I help people with:

  • transcending self-limiting patterns
  • removing barriers to intimate relationships
  • mastering anxiety, stress and depression
  • clarifying life goals and intentions
  • creating “right livelihood”
  • silencing one’s inner critic
  • ending self-sabotaging behaviors
  • embracing the opportunity within a crisis
  • healing sexual abuse, traumas or other unresolved issues with EMDR
  • grieving and healing significant losses
  • increasing self-trust and self-acceptance
  • experiencing more joy and aliveness
  • deepening their spiritual practice
In relationship counseling I help couples with:
  • improving communication skills
  • resolving power struggles
  • learning the skills necessary to “fight fairly”
  • naming judgments that create separation
  • rekindling passion & enhancing sexual intimacy
  • transforming codependent entanglements
  • healing from infidelity and/or sexual addiction
  • developing compassion and forgiveness
  • taking space without shutting each other out
  • healing unconscious family of origin patterns
  • Deepening their spiritual connection
Because I have seen that no single therapy is useful for everyone and that “talk therapy” sometimes isn’t enough, my work is a holistic approach that integrates traditional and nontraditional therapies. Depending on your unique needs, I may use or draw from: contemporary marriage and family therapy, the healing potential of EMDR, body-centered approaches (Hakomi Therapy), mindfulness practice and transpersonal psychology. My work is also strongly influenced by humanistic psychology, contemplative psychotherapy and the practices of several spiritual traditions.

MY BACKGROUND

In addition to my private practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have taught in the Contemplative Psychotherapy program at Naropa University and am the former Clinic Coordinator of the Family Therapy Training Center of Colorado. I have also taught court-approved cooperative parenting seminars designed to reduce the negative effects on both children and adults as they are going through a divorce.
